Update-The MSA Coalition Global Seed Research Grant Program 2016
After the completion of reviews for round 1 to prepare apps and projects of 2016’s MSA Research Grant Program, the MSA Coalition’s Scientific Advisory Board have been invited to submit to round 2 of the competition.
Whereas in round 1, 36 grant pre-proposals for research grants were reviewed. These pre proposals covered various MSA topics which are categorized as:
The MSA Research Grant Review Process:
The review process for each grant application involves a rigorous assessment and scoring by 3 independent peer reviewers who have no affiliation to the applicant, their collaborators or their institutions. MSA Coalition’s Research Committee tallies score and then there is a final round of discussion takes place by scientific advisors.

- Pathogenesis – aiming to further understand the underlying cause of MSA
- Biomarkers – aiming to diagnose MSA rare disease earlier and more accurately and to measure progression
- Pre-Clinical & Clinical – aiming to develop potential therapies which are tested first on cell and animal models in the laboratory (pre-clinical trials) and turn them into treatments for MSA patients (clinical trials).
